During the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, Muslim youths have received a strong warning from President John Dramani Mahama not to drive recklessly or ride motorcycles.

Speaking at a gathering hosted by the National Chief Imam in Accra’s Black Star Square, President Mahama emphasized that such risky actions frequently result in needless deaths.

While Eid-ul-Fitr is a time for celebration and togetherness, he underlined that it shouldn’t be tainted by acts that endanger lives.

“Ramadan is a period of togetherness, not recklessness,” the president said, advising youth to enjoy themselves in moderation and refrain from putting others or themselves in danger.

President Mahama said he has told the police to stay alert and take tough measures against criminals in order to address the problem.

He emphasized that in the past, careless motorbike riding and driving during the celebrations of Ramadan had resulted in fatal incidents.

“I urge our brothers who engage in this to stop,” he warned, adding, “I have asked the police to deal with you if you flout this, and you will be arrested.”
