Residents of Nsawam Adoagyiri have been urged by the Eastern Regional Security Council, which is chaired by Regional Minister Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, to refrain from possessing either legally registered or illegally registered rifles or weapons in order to avoid being labeled criminals by the security services.

According to the regional minister, the new guidelines would maintain peace and reinstate law and order in the wake of an alleged chieftaincy dispute that resulted in the shooting of several local residents who were acting in a lawful manner.

Two people have so far perished as a result of a shooting event that occurred at Nsawam Adoagyiri on Monday night, according to confirmation from the Eastern regional minister.

A renewed chieftaincy dispute in the region on Tuesday resulted in 5 individuals suffering gunshot wounds and being evacuated to the Nsawam and Koforidua Central hospital, according to Hon. Seth Acheampong.

Following the event on Thursday, the minister spoke to the media and stated that as it is now illegal to possess or brandish guns in Adoagyiri, failing to abide by the new instructions will prompt the security authorities on the scene to treat such recalcitrants as criminals.

Speaking to Afeema News, Seth Acheampong highlighted the need to notify the police in advance of holding any special activities, as required by the Ghanaian constitution.

The Eastern Regional Security Council has urged locals in the Nsawam Adoagyiri municipality’s impacted communities to maintain calm and follow the new security measures in order for peace to reign while the local police are maintaining law and order.

The minister claims that a thorough investigation into the shooting incident has been begun by the security organizations in the municipality and the region as a whole, with the promise that those responsible will face the full force of the law.
