Reshuffle ministers to stop them from creating kingdoms – Mahama to Akufo-Addo

John Dramani Mahama, a former president, has criticized Nana Akufo-Addo once more for failing to change the ministries.

According to Mr. Mahama, the President’s inaction on that matter has rendered his ministers inviolable in their various ministries.

He asserts that some ministers are establishing their own kingdoms inside certain ministries.

“Sometimes you take decisions to move people because you don’t want them to create kingdoms in the Ministries in which they are.

When the staff of the ministry or the agency know that this person is untouchable, then it does not bring out the best in them…and that is what is happening today,” Mahama stated.

Additionally, Mr. Mahama stated that the prolonged tenure of ministers in one position prohibits them from performing at their peak.

Reorganization, in his opinion, also fosters unity within the government.

“After a while, take a look at the performance of your ministers and based on their performance, you must decide to drop some people and you can also decide to shift some people to other places.

They may be probably good but maybe they may not be finding their feet in the ministry you sent them and so after observing them for a year or two, you see that this person will do better here because of certain qualities they have.”

Speaking at Academic City University College on the theme of “Taking Critical Decisions at Decisive Moments as a Leader” was the NDC’s 2020 Presidential Candidate, who is also expected to lead the party into the 2024 Presidential Elections.

His remarks follow several requests for President Akufo-Addo to reshuffle his administration.

The President has stated, however, that he will not reshuffle simply for the purpose of it.

In response to the calls, President Akufo-Addo stated that he continuously assesses the performance of his ministers.

Many of his appointments, in his opinion, have performed their roles admirably.
