Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has encouraged the government to reevaluate how it pays road contractors in order to reduce the number of road projects that are abandoned because of financial difficulties.

He suggested a staggered payment plan to give contractors steady financial security so they could successfully complete projects by the deadline.

The Asantehene underlined the Ministry of Roads and Highways’ duty to prioritize the building and restoration of important road networks across the country, highlighting the critical role that road infrastructure plays in Ghana’s socioeconomic growth.

He emphasized how crucial it is to pay contractors on schedule in order to resolve any unresolved complaints and guarantee the longevity and quality of road projects.

During the new Roads and Highways Minister Francis Asenso Boakye’s courtesy visit to the Manhyia Palace on Monday, March 18, the Asantehene reaffirmed these concerns.

“It is not good to hold contractors up in waiting when it comes to payment. Put measures in place to deal with these incidents as you take over.”

“When I heard about your visit, I intentionally went to take a look at the Kuntenase road. I realized at a point that the road was very bad and I noticed it has been awarded to a contractor but he was not on site and I realized it is due to payment”, he furthered.

The King demanded that all current road work be completed, even though he acknowledged that the government cannot build all of the region’s roadways.

His Majesty requested ministry staff to provide their full assistance in order to guarantee the effective execution of these plans, expressing trust in Minister Asenso Boakye’s capacity to deliver.

Asenso Boakye visited the sites of many current road projects in the Ashanti Region, including as the Atafoa bridge project, which aims to reduce flooding, Kenyase inner roads, and Kwabre East town roads, accompanied by senior ministry officials.

The group evaluated the status of several projects, including the Suame Interchange, the Asuofua, Kokoso, and Kumasi-Sunyani highways.

In order to ease the difficulties experienced by drivers, Minister Asenso Boakye informed the populace of the government’s commitment to finishing these crucial projects.
