Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi popularly known as Zuba has been confirmed as the new CEO of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) after a nearly unanimous vote of confidence by assembly members on Thursday.
President John Dramani Mahama chose Mr. Boadi, who was the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
In a final confirmation exercise on Thursday at the KMA chambers, he received 55 of the 56 votes polled.
As the new mayor assumes control of Ghana’s second-largest city, this overwhelming approval shows that the public supports him.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, gave the elected mayor instructions to concentrate on a few of the city’s most urgent issues.
“I urge you to prioritise decongesting the city, improve sanitation, and work to address key challenges at the Kejetia Market,” he said.
“These issues continue to slow development in the Kumasi Metropolis,” Dr Amoakohene added, assuring that the Regional Coordinating Council will work closely with the Assembly to tackle the problems confronting residents.
Mr. Ofori Agyemang Boadi said that the KMA would launch a comprehensive decongestion exercise the following week in a statement following his confirmation on Thursday, April 10.
He made it clear that although the military would not be involved, creative strategies will be used to preserve business operations while regaining public areas.
He also presented intentions to restart major infrastructure projects that had stagnated, including the second phase of the Central Market reconstruction and the Krofrom Market.
“With the Kejetia phase two, the contractors are on site, the energy that we are expecting to see is not what we are seeing. The regional minister has been working on it for some time.
“I will get a briefing from him on whatever has transpired. I believe that by the end of President Mahama’s tenure, the Kejetia market will be ready,” he stated.
