Samuel Nartey George, the Minister nominated for Communications, Digitalization, and Innovation, has promised to bring up the Anti-Gay Bill again in the 9th Parliament.
He reiterated his adamant opposition to LGBTQ+ activities, saying the measure is essential to maintaining Ghanaian social standards and cultural values.
Mr. George stated that the reintroduction of the measure is in accordance with the will of the Ghanaian people during his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30.
“This is a matter of principle and national interest. The Anti-Gay Bill is not about discrimination but about preserving our moral and cultural values as a country,” he stated.
He went on to say that although Ghana is still dedicated to upholding human rights, some of its behaviors are inconsistent with its customs and values.
He was certain that both Parliament and the public would support the bill broadly if it was reintroduced.
“The people of Ghana have spoken clearly on this issue, and as their representative, I will ensure that their voice is heard,” he said.
Additionally, Mr. George disregarded international organizations’ worries about the bill, arguing that Ghana has the right to make its own laws free from outside intervention.
He reaffirmed his commitment to defending Ghanaian social values by promising to collaborate closely with Parliament and pertinent parties to see that the bill is passed.
