Caterers for the School Feeding Program have announced a statewide strike.
They haven’t received pay in a while.
Additionally, the government has not increased the amount required to feed each child.
At a news conference in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, the irate caterers told the media that they had no choice but to use strike action.
“School feeding caterers are public servants like teachers, police, doctors, nurses, and other employees that provide state services, but we are being discriminated against,” one of their leaders, Gifty Asamoah, told journalists.
“Is it possible for the government to stop paying teachers for even a month? Why do they act in the other manner toward caterers, she questioned.
Contract is a contract, she said, and our human rights cannot be violated.
