Mena Efua, 35, is accused of selling her two-week-old child in Nkotompo, a town in the Western Region’s Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, for GHC 300.

Maame Esi, the suspect’s sister, told Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, presenter of Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show, that she helped her sister give birth on Monday of last week, but the baby vanished out of thin air.

“I assisted her to deliver last week Monday at home. After a week, the baby is nowhere to be found. I interrogated her and she confessed to giving the baby to an unnamed person for GHC300, but has refused to disclose the identity of the person.”

The woman goes on to say that although her sister first acknowledged giving the kid to a nurse who promised to find her a buyer, she has since refused to identify the nurse.

“Initially she said she handed over the baby to a nurse who promised to sell the baby for her, but she has refused to name her. She is now telling us the baby is currently in Accra but can’t lead us to the exact place. We are currently looking for help to find the whereabouts of the baby”, she added.

The older sister claims that over three weeks after the baby was delivered, the infant’s location has since been unknown.

According to the information Connect FM has access to, Mena Efua gave the kid to a person who assured her that they would find her a buyer. However, after exchanging the baby, the individual only brought GHC 300 back.

The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) was referred to the case after it was first reported at the Sekondi Police Station.

Police have begun an investigation into the situation, according to additional checks conducted by the Connect FM Morning Show crew at the Regional DOVVSU office.
