SIM registration via app to attract GH¢ 5 charge-Communications Minister

Self-service registration applications will be made accessible on both Android and iOS platforms this week for people who want to re-register their SIM cards.

During a news conference on July 31, 2022, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications and Digitalization, said.

According to her, using the app to register will cost GHC 5.

“The SIM Registration App will be available for download on both android and IOS this week, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Each registration via the app will be subject to a 5-cedi surcharge.”

The Minister stated that given the difficulties encountered during the SIM card re-registration process, the app had to be created.

The Ghana Card had been registered for by 16,969,034 people as of Thursday, July 21, 2022, and approximately 16,535,623 cards had been printed. Additionally, 15,395,607 people had linked their Ghana Cards to their SIM cards.

The Minister declared during the press conference that the deadline for SIM card re-registration would now be September 30, 2022.

She said non-resident Ghanaians who lack the Ghana card “may finish the process using their passports, but they will need to update their information with the Ghana card whenever they obtain it.”

“They have up to December 2022 to do so. I urge them to comply with these directives and to contact the NCA if they have any peculiar challenges.”

Students studying abroad and Ghanaians on official business are urged to contact the NCA for help if they are unable to obtain the Ghana card by December.

In Ghana, tourists can purchase a SIM card with their passports.

The government has extended the SIM card re-registration date to September 30, 2022.

During a press conference held today, Sunday, July 31, 2022, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communications and Digitalization, revealed this.

“The program will be extended until September 30th in order to mark the anniversary of its beginning and give us a full year.

According to the Minister, voice and internet services will not be available to any sim that has not been registered by the end of August.

The deadline for everyone to re-register their SIM cards with their Ghana Cards was originally July 31.
