The statement that the Free Senior High School program will not be cancelled has been reiterated by President John Dramani Mahama.
Instead, his administration will enhance the program, he stated.
In his State of the Nation Address (SONA) to parliament on Thursday, February 27, he stated that there was significant room for improvement in the method in which the program was carried out.
“I John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, will not cancel the free SHS programme,” he stated.
Mr. Mahama had previously promised not to discontinue the program during the 2024 election campaign.
In addition, President Mahama stated in his speech that he had ordered the National Service Scandal’s perpetrators to have their assets seized and their whereabouts declared wanted.
He claimed that this is a component of making the officials answerable for their management.
“I have directed the culprits to be declared as wanted and their assets frozen,” he stated.
Yaw Danso, an accountant at the National Service Authority (NSA), was arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) over the weekend in relation to the payroll issue involving ghost names that has shook the organization.
