Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, who is currently a member of the Council of State, has justified her eligibility to serve on the advisory council by highlighting her credentials and autonomy.
Edward Doe Adjaho is the chairman of the Council of State, which consists of 31 members, including the previous Chief Justice.
“I am a former Chief Justice,” Akuffo said in remarks to reporters at the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday, February 18, following their swearing-in by the president. Am I not? Am I eligible or not?
“I am there in my own right simply as a former Chief Justice. I am not even there representing the Judicial Service.”
She emphasized the Council of State’s advising function and her dedication to offering truthful, objective counsel.
“The Council of State is a body that is supposed to be advising the president. I am not going to be singing his master’s voice, so to speak. An adviser does not parrot.
“An adviser speaks with honesty. An adviser looks to the best interest not only of the person they are advising but of the function the person is serving,” she added.
