The Speaker of Parliament Rt, Hon Alban Sumana Kingford Bagbin has announced a seven (7) member Special Committee to investigate the leaked tape alleged to removed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare from office and also to rig the 2024 general elections.

The committee will be chaired by Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South Constituency Hon, Samuel Atta Akyea, Hon, Patrick Yaw Boamah a member, Hon, Ophelia Mensah from the majority side.

The Minority presented MP for Builsa North, James Agalga as vice chairman, Eric Opoku and Peter Lanchene Toobu.

The committee will look into the validity of the audio recording that was leaked, the plot to have the present IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, removed, and any other information contained in the audio tape, according to the Speaker, and will, as necessary, recommend sanctions to those found guilty.

Additionally, it must offer reform proposals as necessary and issue any additional recommendations or related directives that the committee may find essential.

The IGP is discussed by certain high-ranking members of the Ghana Police Service and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the audio recording.

They can be heard casting doubt on the IGP’s objectivity and asserting that John Dramani Mahama supports him, all in an effort to secure the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) reelection.

Therefore, the people are requesting his ouster prior to the general elections in 2024.

According to reports, Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Region Chairman of the NPP, is the party official whose voice can be heard on the recording. Daniel Bugri Naabu has denied recording the conversation.
