A stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra during the Ghana Armed Forces’ 2025–2026 recruitment exercise resulted in six job seekers’ deaths and several injuries.

The tragedy happened at around 6:20 a.m., according to a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces, when a sudden influx of applicants broke security procedures and pushed their way through the gates before the planned screening.

At the 37 Military Hospital, medical personnel are treating the injured and attempting to stabilize their condition.

The Ghana Armed Forces wished the injured a speedy recovery and offered their condolences to the relatives of the deceased.

The statement, signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, acting Director General of Public Relations, assured the public that investigations are underway and further updates will be communicated in due course.

The sources further disclosed that the victims died after suffering serious injuries, such as fractured arms, legs, and necks.

The story claims that military police were sent to the location to oversee the screening process.

But only one side of the double metal gate was opened, making it necessary for the massive number of applicants to shove through a single entrance—a circumstance that finally resulted in the deadly stampede.
