New accusations have been brought by State Prosecutors in the High Court against Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the former Minister for Sanitation’s housemaid.

The 18-year-old Patience Botwe and seven other individuals are accused of pilfering money worth $1 million, 300,000 euros, and other assets.

They were brought before the Circuit Court on July 6 of this year while investigations were still going on.

When the case was brought in court on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye, a police prosecutor, along with Superintendent Sylvester Asare and Senior State Attorney Akosua Agyepomaa Agyemang, informed the court that a new charge sheet had been filed at the High Court.

ASP Nyamekye stated that the High Court Registrar had not yet assigned a hearing date so that the prosecution may inform the Circuit Court and then withdraw.

Following the most recent development, ASP Nyamekye informed the court that the charge sheet filed in the Circuit Court will be withdrawn when the date for the High Court hearing was set.

DSP Nyamekye told the court, “The State Attorney informed me that they have filed an enhanced Charge Sheet at the High Court yesterday waiting for a date to be issued.”

The prosecution “will come and seek the leave of the Court and withdraw the case from here (Circuit Court) and continue at High Court,” he said, if a date is set.

In light of this, the matter was postponed until November 8, 2023, so that the prosecution might drop its application in circuit court.

With the exception of the eighth accused, who is still at large, every accused person was present in court.

The following individuals are on a preliminary 14 counts of offenses: Patience Botwe, 18, a hairdresser; Sarah Agyei, 30, jobless; Benjamin Sowah, 29, a plumber; Malik Dauda, 34, unemployed; Christiana Achab, a trader; Job Pomary, a mechanic; and Yahaya Sumaila, an excavator operator.

The eighth defendant facing comparable charges is still at large.

They have not entered a plea on any of the 14 provisional counts of accusations, which include one conspiracy count, five conspiracy counts, and eight counts of dishonestly receiving.
