The reason Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cannot select his running mate on his own has been questioned by renowned journalist Kwesi Pratt Jr.

There are reportedly over ten influential members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vying to be Bawumia’s running mate. Regional organizations such as the opinion leaders of the NPP in Greater Accra are similarly affected.

Greater Accra supporters have urged their presidential candidate to select a Ghanaian as his running mate.

But Kwesi Pratt thinks selecting a running mate should be determined by skill rather than a candidate’s tribe, calling such lobbying efforts “foolishness.”

What source is this tribalism? What difference does it make if the person is a Frafra or a Ga? Come on, let’s get real! The ability to think should be the primary criterion, not the person’s background “He became enraged.

“Will not help Bawumia…why are you doing this to this man; no presidential candidate since 1992 has been treated this way,” he said in reference to the needless pressure being placed on the vice president. Bawumia appears incapable of making independent decisions. We’ve reached the point of dictation now, so please stop.”

Mr Pratt disclosed that “the same appears to apply to the NDC; this foolishness has gripped all the parties and it must stop”

Kwesi Pratt was participating in a panel discussion on “Kokrokoo,” the morning program on Peace FM.
