The National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by opposition leader John Mahama, has verified that the party staged a demonstration on September 17 to emphasize their demand that the Electoral Commission audit the voter register.
Speaking to NDC supporters at Sampa in the Bono Region’s Jaman North District, Mr. Mahama asked them to visit the EC offices in order to make sure the proper procedures are followed before to the polls on December 7.
“The Electoral Commission must up their game and do things right if we desire free, fair, and peaceful elections,” he added, pointing to the numerous gaps in the voter registration.
He stated that in order to have everything in order before the elections, they [the EC] needed to critically inspect the register.
According to Mr. Mahama, the demonstration will serve as a reminder to the EC to take action about the register.
So on September 17th, the NDC will hold a demonstration in every town where there is an EC office. He proclaimed at Sampa, “It has been announced by our chairman, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah.”
He stated, “NDC [supporters], you wear your t-shirts, and you go and demonstrate to the EC office so that we can put pressure on them to do their job and do what they have to do to ensure a peaceful and transparent elections.”
John Mahama’s nomination documents for the December 7 elections were sent to the EC by party chair Johnson Asiedu Nketia on Monday.
Reminding the supporters of the ramifications of elections, Mr. Mahama thanked the party and everyone who had supported his forms.
“If you vote well, it brings development and wellness. However, if you don’t vote well and someone who does not know governance leads the country, it brings hardship,” he said.
He noted that since the New Patriotic Party took office eight years ago, Ghanaians had experienced extreme economic sufferings.
“But thanks to the 1992 constitution we have another opportunity to vote for change and economic freedom”.
In an effort to reset the nation and bring about more progress, he urged the people of Sampa to cast their ballots for the NDC and Frederick Yaw Ahenkwa, the parliamentary candidate and member of parliament.
