Citing safety concerns, students from Odorgonor Senior High School in Accra demonstrated in the streets on Monday, February 24, against malfunctioning traffic lights and lighting close to their school.
The students bemoan the fact that staff members have already died as a result of the failing signs, and they worry that more lives may be lost if immediate action is not taken.
Traffic along the road was momentarily halted by their demonstration.
The pupils claim that because the traffic lights are broken, cars race past the school’s entrance, causing numerous near-miss collisions.
In order to stop more deaths, some of the students who were demonstrating urged the government to take immediate action.
Because there isn’t a traffic signal here, our security guard has passed away. We want prompt action from the administration.
