The Bekwai Constituency Organizer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by Nana Akufo-Addo and his vice Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has constructed an unwanted interchange for the inhabitants of Tamale whiles the people in Ashanti is rather crying for interchanges.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, delivering the 2022 budget in Parliament on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, said they were going to construct five interchanges in the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area.
He mentioned some of the areas where the interchanges will be built as Suame, Santasi Roundabout, Airport Roundabout,Ahodwo and Anloga Junction.
On the other hand, the Minister in charge of Roads and Highways Hon Kwasi Amoako-Atta urged the residents of Ashanti to exercise restraint as the government is committed to construct 5 more interchanges in Ashanti to help reduce the traffic situation in the region.
According to him it will serve as a face-lift for the physical infrastructure in the Region.
Hon Amoako-Atta on 18th March 2021 paid a working visit to inspects the ongoing projects and in an interview with the media the minister implied that “the second term of the Akufo-Addo-led administration will serve the Region its fair share of the national cake, hence, we have planned to dot 5 new interchanges across the Region specifically within the Kumasi metropolis to distribute traffic effectively and reduce congestion on various major roads”.
Recently the youths in the Ashanti region are surging pressure on Ashanti Region’s Members of Parliament (MP’s) to facilitate speedy development of the region.
The youth that was demonstrating in the Asokore Mampong Constituency threatened to sack all members of Parliament in the region if they don’t lobby for developments.
In a panel discussion on Otec FM flagship programme dubbed “Dwaberem” hosed by Prince Nii Ade(Dr Cash) the NDC Bekwai Constituency Organizer Gabriel Asiedu urged the residents in Ashanti to exercise patience for the next NDC government because they are the development driven party.
“NPP has cheated Ashanti’s in development, they only use them for elections but not development. Tamale got unwanted interchange but Kumasi is crying for interchanges” Gabriel Asiedu added.
John Mahama constructed Kejetia market for the people of Kumasi and also added Rattary Park for a recreational purpose.
