Two persons believed to have died following a helicopter crash at the Oninku Drive School Park in Tema Community One (1) on Monday, March 16, 2026 remains sent to the Police morgue for preservation and autopsy according to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The helicopter allegedly fell from the sky before landing in the park, prompting a quick reaction from emergency responders.
Divisional Officer II, Ebenezer Ayenzu, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for GNFS in Tema, informed Newsmen on March 16, that the aircraft in question was not a military helicopter, disputing previous reports.
The helicopter allegedly crashed near Oninku Drive School Park in Tema Community One, near the city’s central business district, while en route from Ho to Accra.
Ayenzu detailed the retrieval process, noting that fire crews reached the location within three minutes of the accident and successfully put out the flames in four to five minutes. The bodies of the two victims were subsequently removed from the wrecked aircraft for preservation.
“It is not a military aircraft. There were two persons on board, and their bodies have been retrieved and sent to the Police morgue for preservation and autopsy.
“We arrived here three minutes after the crash, and within the next four to five minutes, we extinguished the fire and retrieved the bodies,” he stated.
The Aviation Authority reports that the microlight aircraft bearing the registration number 9G-ADV lost radio communication at 1418Z on Monday, March 16, 2026. The Authority stated that additional information about the accident will be provided in the subsequent bulletin.
