The 2025 edition of the “Save a Life” blood donation campaign saw 6,620 units of blood collected by the MTN Ghana Foundation. In all 16 regions, 42 blood donation centers participated in the exercise.
This yearly event helps the National Blood Service and local hospitals deal with the severe blood supply shortfall in the nation. The MTN Ghana Foundation’s commitment to expanding access to high-quality healthcare was further demonstrated by this year’s event, which surpassed expectations due to the generosity of MTN staff, partners, and the general public.
Adwoa Wiafe, MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, expressed her enthusiasm for the company’s accomplishments this year. “We are thrilled to have surpassed the target set for this year’s campaign. I hope this will help to alleviate the gap in blood supplies in our hospitals. At MTN, we believe in making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve”.
Adwoa Wiafe also expressed MTN’s gratitude to all donors, healthcare partners, and volunteers who contributed to this life-saving cause. “We remain committed to championing initiatives that improve lives and strengthen communities,” she added.
Dr. Shirley Owusu Ofori, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Blood Service, commended the MTN Ghana Foundation for its ongoing commitment to replenishing the country’s blood banks. She remarked, “The partnership between the MTN Ghana Foundation and the National Blood Service has, over the years, encouraged voluntary, unpaid blood donations and ensured a steady supply of life-saving blood for patients in need.”
The MTN Ghana Foundation organizes the yearly Valentine’s Day blood donation event known as the “Save a Life” campaign. It gives MTN employees and members of the public the chance to donate blood in order to support regional hospitals and the National Blood Bank. In order to address the very low blood supplies, the National Blood Service launched this campaign in 2011 in response to requests for volunteer donations. MTN has successfully raised approximately 35,620 units of blood for nearby hospitals with this year’s collection.
