Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the minister of energy, has maintained that the power outages, or “dumsor,” did not occur during the Akufo-Addo administration.

He asserts that the time of unpredictable power supply was limited to the John Mahama government.

Dr. Opoku Prempreh stated that the government is working to find a solution to the issue facing the energy sector, which is why there is now a power crisis, during his appearance before the Government Assurances Committee in Accra on Friday, May 3.

“I told you that when I got to the Ministry we’ve gone past the era where we had 72 to 96 days of lights out and six hours of lights on. We are in the era of ‘dum siesie’ which is profoundly different from dumsor.”

“Dumsor as inflicted on Ghanaians has only happened as characterised his excellency John Dramani Mahama’s governance. He is the only president on record that for four years that he reigned, for four years that he ruled, for four years that he governed, there was ‘dum dum dum.’ If the non-partisan colleague says that now it is worse, then I don’t know where his realities lie,” Dr. Opoku Prempeh said.

Addressing the committee members, Dr Opoku Prempeh insisted that the erratic power supply the country was experiencing was not “dumsor” but “dum sie sie.”

He said that Mr. Mahama’s version was far more inconsistent since there wasn’t enough power to keep the lights on all the time.

But “dum sie sie” suggests that the lights go out to allow for maintenance and other energy-related tasks to be completed.

In his speech at this year’s May Day celebration, President Akufo-Addo said that the power issue had been addressed. However, inconsistent power supply is still a problem in many areas of the nation.
