The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s 2024 flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has declared that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is aware it would lose the next elections in December 2024.

Mr. Mahama claims that the NPP has admitted to itself that this is an inescapable circumstance, which is why they are using gerrymandering.

On Monday, June 3, Mr. Mahama alerted the Electoral Commission (EC) to its directive prohibiting political parties from keeping an eye on the current vote transfer process in a press release.

He emphasized that this choice runs counter to a previous agreement reached with political parties at the previous week’s Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.

Mr. Mahama maintained that the action taken by the EC indicates a desire to help the NPP win the general elections in 2024.

As a result, he attacked the Commission for what he perceived as an attempt to rig the results in the ruling party’s favor.

Mahama expressed confidence that the NPP will fail to hold onto power in spite of these purported strategies.

He made reference to the party’s leadership during the previous eight years, implying that their actions will cause it to lose the next round of elections.

“The NPP knows and internally admits that it will lose the 2024 presidential elections. We also know that, as a last resort, it seeks to deploy gerrymandering during this voter transfer period to improve its chances in the parliamentary elections in the erroneous belief that it may rely on that to affect its presidential votes,” the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer stated.

“Again, they will fail because that strategy will not work. We have in our possession a long list of constituencies in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions and selected places in Greater

Accra and other regions where the NPP is seeking to transfer thousands of voters from their strongholds to offset the NDC’s gains in constituencies we control,” he stated.
