“The present NPP is not NPP, it is fake” – Prof Frimpong Boateng

Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has delivered a sharp criticism of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), contending that the party as it stands now fails to embody the principles and values upon which it was established.

During an interview, Prof Frimpong-Boateng stated that the organization he once served with pride has undergone fundamental changes and now resembles little of the party he recognized in the past.

“The present NPP is not NPP. It is fake. From what I see now, this is not the NPP I used to know,” he stated.

When asked if he still sees himself as part of the party, he separated himself from what he referred to as its present organization

“Not the fake one. The real one is there. It is a virtual thing. The members are in the background,” he added.

The former minister also raised serious concerns about the party’s internal democratic processes, particularly the election of its most recent flagbearer, which he alleged was undermined by coercion and inducements.

“Look at how they elected their last flagbearer—twisting people’s arms, bribing delegates and intimidating others to get a flagbearer. This is the beginning of corruption, and it should not be allowed in any serious institution or political party,” he stated during a conversation with Channel One TV.

Prof Frimpong-Boateng associated these internal flaws with the NPP’s significant loss in the recent general elections, cautioning that the party faces further deterioration if it does not address its internal issues.

He warned that reusing previous leadership without changes could be extremely dangerous.

Emphasizing that his remarks were not a personal assault on former Vice President Dr “Bawumia is a very nice person, but being nice alone is not enough to lead Nkrumah’s Ghana.”
