“The victory is not mine but ours” – Bawumia to NPP supporters

Bawumia defeated Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Assin Central Member of Parliament, with 118,210 votes, or 61.47% of the votes. Agyapong received 71,996 votes, or 37.41% of the vote.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto, a former minister of food and agriculture, received 1,459 votes, or 0.76% of the total, while Francis Addai-Nimoh received 781 votes, or 0.41%.

At a short ceremony on Saturday, November 4, in Accra, Bawumia gave his acceptance speech. He expressed his humility and overwhelm at the development.

“I, therefore, stand here with profound gratitude and humility, having received the greatest honour of my life, the victory is not mine but ours.”

“The significance of this victory is not lost on me, I am humbled and overwhelmed… and on this historic day, I have been elected leader of the great NPP, this is just surreal, I thank God for how far he has brought me,” the flagbearer of the NPP said.

“I have always believed that with hard work, honesty, discipline and faith in God, one can fulfil one’s potential, it is possible,” Bawumia said.

Speaking on Saturday night, November 4, in Accra, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that Ghana could not afford the return of the NDC, particularly under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama. Vice-President Bawumia was recognized as the newly elected flagbearer and leader of the NPP.

In light of this, he has urged every party member to band together, work well together, and put in a lot of effort throughout the campaign.

“I am confident Mahamudu Bawumia with the assistance of his fellow contenders and all the other contestants will provide the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the strong leadership that will take on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2024 and inflict a firm substantive defeat on John Dramani Mahama”, President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated.

While acknowledging that the next year’s election would not be simple, the President expressed hope that “when we are united and courageous, God will make the way for us to be victorious on December 7, 2024.” President Akufo-Addo, along with Stephen Ntim, the National Chairman of the NPP, ceremoniously handed Dr. Bawumia the party’s flag to formally establish him as the new flagbearer and leader. The President, who was clearly thrilled with the peaceful and successful primary, expressed gratitude to all party members, including the elections committee, polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, constituency executives, regional and national executives, and the council of elders.

He claimed that the events that followed proved beyond a doubt that the NPP was safeguarding Ghanaian democracy.

“You have demonstrated our party’s dedication to tradition and democratic values.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will face former President John Dramani Mahama after his election. Mahama received the support of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) earlier this year.

The party wants to break the record that no political party in Ghana has won more than two terms in a row under the Fourth Republic, which began in 1992 and continues to this day.

The major opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the ruling New Patriotic Party are expected to engage in fierce competition in the 2024 election.
