President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been under heavy fire from National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama over the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

Mahama has previously been urged by President Akufo-Addo to make clear his position on important national matters, such as the Free SHS program.

Mahama, however, chastised the president at a speech to supporters in Ningo Prampram on Thursday, claiming that he had frequently spoken his opinions on the Free SHS policy and the galamsey (illegal mining) issue.

Mahama implied that the president was either disregarding his views on these important issues, which were previously widely known and well-publicized, or was not paying attention.

He underlined that he had already expressed his opinions on the Free SHS policy and the galamsey issue, which still wreaks havoc across the nation.

“I have made it clear that there are implementational issues with the Free SHS, which is why he (Akufo-Addo) is either not in this country or has been sleeping.” First, there isn’t any specific financing. Second, the two track system has not been well received by parents either. Third, the youngsters are not receiving high-quality food, therefore I have stated that the NDC would come and address these three issues” Mahama stated.

Ahead of the election in December, the Free SHS argument is still a major topic, and this is why the two party leaders are arguing back and forth.

Mr. Mahama’s remarks imply that he believes the President is out of step with his public declarations, which exacerbates the political rivalry as the election season approaches.
