Claims of collaboration with any political party to rig the general elections scheduled for December 7 have been denied by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Recently, the EC was accused by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of working with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sway the results of the Ashanti Region election.
The EC’s Head of Training, Dr. Serebuor Quaicoe, addressed these accusations during a security symposium at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, calling them unfounded.
He underlined that the integrity and transparency of the existing electoral process are guaranteed by its architecture, which forbids any kind of rigging.
“There is no way an election in Ghana can be rigged. There is no way. It can only be done with the collaboration of all stakeholders. Because at any point in time, the people are there. That will mean the Electoral Commission will be compromised and the party agents themselves will be compromised.
“Because when they count, and it is 10, they say it is 100, and everybody agrees. It is not possible. So, there can be irregularities, there can be fraudulent activities, but rigging an election is impossible in Ghana.”
