Former President John Dramani Mahama has conveyed his gratitude to the Assin North electorate for choosing Jame Gyakye Quayson, a candidate for the National Democratic Congress, to serve as their new representative in Parliament.
Mr. Mahama further stated that there’s nothing bigger than the verdict of the people and therefore thanked the constituents for rejecting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and remarked that they exhibited justice in their voting pattern.
“A big thank you, Assin North, for supporting James Gyakye Quayson and rejecting the non-performing NPP in the by-election. Your vote for Justice and Development is truly inspiring. Let’s keep working together to build the Ghana we all dream of,” Mahama posted.
Following the Supreme Court’s annulment of the 2020 elections held in the Assin North constituency, which Mr. Quayson won, a by-election was held.
After the by-election on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, James Gyakye Quayson received 17,245 votes, or 57.56% of the vote, while Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) received 12,630 votes, or 42.15%.
Sefenu Bernice Enyonam, a candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), received only 87 votes, or 0.29% of the total cast.
