On Wednesday, October 4, former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama and a group from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) paid a visit to former President John Agyekum Kufuor and his family to express their condolences for the loss of former First Lady Theresa Kufuor.
During the visit, Mahama referred to the late Theresa Kufuor as the affectionately known “Mother of the Nation” due to her dignified demeanor while First Lady. Mahama was joined by his wife, former First Lady Lordina.
The trip included Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC’s national chairman, Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, the council of elders’ chair, as well as representatives from the political committee of the party.
Mahama signed the Book of Condolence on behalf of the NDC, writing, “We are all saddened by the passing of our respected mother, former First Lady Madam Theresa Kufuor. She carried herself with dignity and was truly acknowledged by the people of Ghana as the Mother of the Nation.”
President Agyekum Kufuor and the entire family received condolences from Mahama as well. Mahama prayed for God to grant the departed a peaceful death.
The family is presently preparing funeral arrangements, which will be disclosed in due course, according to former president John Agyekum Kufuor.
Under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive, national flags throughout Ghana have been flying at half-staff since Monday, October 2.
As a sign of respect for the late former First Lady Theresa Kufuor, the flag will continue to be lowered until Sunday, October 8.
