Securing the eighth spot on the 2024 presidential vote has pleased the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which sees it as a sign of reform.
NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey spoke to the media after the voting process on Friday, September 20, 2024, and emphasized that the number eight signifies a crucial turning point for the nation.
He said that it was time for a change of course under their leadership following eight years of what the NDC refers to as “mismanagement and corruption” under the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“We came here asking for God’s perfect will to be done and we accept the number eight.
“After eight critical years of decay, lack of order, corruption, and darkness that has engulfed this country, I believe the number eight is quite significant.
“It tells the country that this is the moment to stop the decay after these eight years,” said Mr. Kwetey.
He said that he was happy that the people had seen what he perceived as the NPP’s disdain for the original balloting agreement and implied that the ruling party had rigged the results to its advantage.
Mr. Kwetey continued, “The nation clearly sees those who are doing everything possible to act improperly and those who are acting morally for the benefit of Ghana.”
