Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, has voiced his displeasure with President John Dramani Mahama’s “tot-tot” approach to ministerial nominations.

His statements followed the Speaker of Parliament’s announcement that the President had nominated three Minister-designates for the Appointments Committee to be vetted.

President Mahama nominated Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as Attorney General and Minister of Justice-designate, John Abdulai Jinapor as Energy Minister-designate, and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister-designate on Thursday, January 9.

Speaking to Parliament, Afenyo-Markin made the case that a government dedicated to creating a “24-hour economy” need to have a whole list of cabinet appointments on hand rather than appointing people one at a time.

He emphasized that this strategy would cause uncertainty in important sectors and postpone important governance procedures.

“When the names were read out by Mr Speaker he read out only three names. The Finance Minister Designate, the Energy Minister Designate and the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice Designate.

“Mr Speaker this ‘tot-tot-tot-tot’ appointment s is unacceptable. Mr Speaker this is a government that promised a 24-hour economy in opposition. They told us they were ready for government,” Afenyo-Markins added.
