Former president John Dramani Mahama has been encouraged not to run in the 2024 elections by Rev Christian Kwabena Andrews, the founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM). Andrews is also known by his stage name, Osofo Kyiri Abosom.
On January 19, 2023, Osofo Kyiri Abosom remarked that Mahama has made significant contributions to the growth of Ghana and should move away to let others the opportunity to govern. He said in the interview on XYZ TV monitored by Ghanatodayonline.com.
Additionally, he urged Ghanaians not to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which he claimed had nothing to offer the nation.
“As for the NPP, they have been cursed; nothing they do will go well, so let us kick all of them out. John Mahama has done well in some aspects. He came to build infrastructure projects and so on. It is time for him to rest, he should not contest again.
“Those calling Mahama to come back do not have vision. He has contributed his quota to the country, and there are other competent and knowledgeable people who should also be given the opportunity to contribute,” he said in Twi.
The people of Ghana should give him the chance to govern the nation, Osofo Kyiri Abosom said, and then they would see the change.
He declared that, if elected president, operating a free port for food imports will be the first step he takes to help Ghana out of its current economic turmoil.
He said that this will lower the cost of goods throughout the nation.
The next phase, according to him, would be to guarantee that there is an abundance of food in the nation by encouraging the youth to plant reliable staples like maize, rice, and cassava.
