On November 19, 2022, an accident involving a Daf truck and five other vehicles occurred near Bogoso in the Western area, leaving one person dead and four others wounded.
The Daf truck’s braking system malfunctioned, according to Augustus Osei, the driver of one of the cars involved in the collision, which caused the disaster.
“I was coming from Boadie to Bogoso and we had bypassed the roundabout. The Daf truck had already climbed the hill but suddenly all we could see was the truck reversing by itself so I shouted for all my passengers to exit the vehicle.
“Three of us in the vehicle managed to exit but one person could not exit so he died,” He described.
According to a police inquiry, the Daf truck’s driver lost control when negotiating a bend near Bogoso while hauling logs from the Prestea end of the road, causing the logs to fall on the five other cars.
The road is now open to traffic and there are members of the MTTD on the premises.
The victims who are allegedly stuck in the accident cars are being rescued with the help of the Ghana National Fire Service.
A Police statement claimed “efforts are ongoing to get the driver of Daf truck, who is on the run, apprehended to face justice.”
