The transition process has begun with President-elect John Mahama receiving an official invitation from President Nana Akufo-Addo to meet with him at Jubilee House on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
This comes after Electoral Commission Chair Jean Mensa announced the results of the 2024 presidential election.
President Akufo-Addo congratulated the president-elect on his “decisive victory” and promised to make sure the transfer of power took place smoothly on January 7, 2025, according to a press release from the Presidency.
Reiterating his commitment to a smooth and peaceful transition of power, the President said, “I look forward to working with the President-elect and his team to realize this goal.”
The President commended Ghanaians for their active engagement in the democratic process and recognized the work of the Electoral Commission (EC), which was headed by Mrs. Jean Mensa.
He said, “This successful election reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy.”
To strengthen democracy and defend the rule of law, President Akufo-Addo called on all citizens to unite.
“I call on all Ghanaians to unite and work together to build a stronger, more resilient Ghana,” he said.
The President emphasized in the press release the attitude of cooperation, which is further emphasized by the invitation to Jubilee House.
His goal in starting the transition process early is to keep Ghana’s standing as an African example of democratic governance intact.
In order to further solidify Ghana’s standing as an African democracy leader, he reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of good administration and a smooth transition.
As the transition phase commences, the December 11 meeting will establish the foundation for collaboration between the departing administration and the future government.
President Akufo-Addo was upbeat about the process, pointing out how crucial it is to maintaining stability and continuity for the country.
“May God continue to bless Ghana, our homeland, and make her strong and great,” the president said.
