As Ghana gets ready for a 14.75% hike in electricity rates that will take effect on May 3, 2025, Minister for Energy and Green Transition John Abdulai Jinapor has urged citizens to exercise patience and understanding.
In order to stabilize the energy sector and solve long-standing operational and financial issues, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced the tariff adjustment.
Speaking during the West African Gas Pipeline Project Committee of Ministers meeting in Accra, Mr. Jinapor emphasized the significance of the review in maintaining the country’s electricity supply and promoting ongoing reforms in the industry.
“I want to appeal to Ghanaians and the general consuming public to bear with us even as we make some of these difficult, but unavoidable decisions to ensure that we have stable and reliable power sources for our own economic development,” Mr Jinapor said.
