Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s handlers have been asked by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to be honest with him and not to be swayed by their narrow-minded agendas.
If things were not going well, the staff should be able to be honest with Dr. Bawumia, he said, so that he could re-strategize instead of letting him get off course.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) should be able to mentor Otumfuo during his campaign tour, according to him, and the team’s collective interest should be the goal.
As part of his campaign visit through the Ashanti Region, the Vice President made a courtesy call to the Asantehene on Wednesday at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
In the 2024 election, Dr. Bawumia will represent the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Asantehene urged Dr. Bawumia to keep outlining his plans and beliefs for the voters in order to gain their support.
He stated he believed Ghanaians would vote for him [Bwumia] if they are convinced by the message.
According to him, no administration could address every issue the nation has because each one contributed to the development of the next.
The Asantehene saw Bawumia’s candidacy as a rare chance to inform Ghanaians of the accomplishments of the current government and the improvements he would bring about if elected.
He declared that the moment had arrived for him to repay President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for having trusted him enough to nominate him for vice president.
During his speech, Dr. Bawumia restated his intentions to reform the current tax system and convert it to a flat tax to facilitate compliance.
He noted that companies and dealers have traditionally fought the Ghana Revenue Authority over taxes, and that because of the system’s complexity, compliance can be challenging.
He thought that the implementation of the fat tax regime would lower the cost of commodities and make it easier for the private sector to make payments.
He declared that his government will generate around one million employment opportunities for young people in digital skills like coding and soft engineering, which would also employ individuals with certifications.
He claimed that with these abilities, the young people could work in the UK from Ghana as long as they had access to a computer and would not need to travel there.
“Digital skills, creative arts, sports, tourism are areas I want to invest in for all of us to benefit from” he stated, noting that Ghana was far ahead of other nations in the subregion in terms of digitalization.
