As part of their educational visit to Parliament, seventy Wa Senior High School students and staff from the Upper West Region paid a courtesy call on the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
Speaking to the students as an alumnus, the Speaker recounted his modest beginnings as a Wa Secondary School student and how, with tenacity and resolve, he overcame all obstacles to become the Speaker of Parliament. He emphasized that students should not mentally enslave themselves and should instead stay focused and ambitious in order to achieve global relevance, regardless of where they live “Nothing is difficult, individuals make them difficult”, he added.
The students also had the opportunity to visit the chamber to observe proceedings and had first-hand knowledge of the business of the House.
Other Members of Parliament (MPs) and staff present to interact with the students, included the MP for Wa Central and Alumni of the School, Hon Dr. Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, MP for Lawra, Hon. Bede Anwataazumo Ziedeng, Director of Protocol and Parliamentary Relations, Ms Sheba Afriyie Owusu, Director of Public Engagement, Supt. Effia Tenge Retd.
