The preliminary results of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both school and private candidates have been made public by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
According to a statement released by WAEC on October 19, the Council will use the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education to send the school candidates’ results to their respective schools.
According to the Council, it found malpractices during the procedure.
Following investigations, the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee authorized the cancellation of 377 school candidates’ and 3 private candidates’ subject results at its 35th meeting on October 16, 2024.
These candidates were convicted of conspiring with others during the examination or bringing outside materials into the exam room.
Furthermore, 41 school candidates’ and one private candidate’s whole results were canceled.
Additionally, because further investigation is being done on the inconsistencies, the results of 33 school candidates and three private candidates have been withheld.
Additionally, WAEC claimed that 149 schools had part of their subject results withheld because of alleged malpractices. According to the Council, these findings might be canceled or made public based on how the investigations turn out.
In general, 569,236 candidates from 19,505 schools registered for the school examination, including 282,703 males and 286,533 females.
