The public has been asked by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fulfill their responsibilities in order to guarantee a peaceful general election on December 7, 2024.
He said that as the nation could not afford to undo the progress gained in preserving the rule of law under the Fourth Republican Constitution, the people needed to understand the significance of peace and stability throughout the democratic process.
“We are one people with a common identity,” President Akufo-Addo said.
He said, “Ghana is the only country we have, and we must do everything in our power to defend our nation and its constitution”.
Speaking at the National May Day Parade in Accra’s Independence Square in 2024, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the people’s differences in politics and ideologies shouldn’t be what separates them.
“Election 2024: The Role of Workers and Social Partners in Securing Peaceful Elections for National Development” was the theme of this year’s May Day ceremony.
The December elections will determine Ghana’s image because, since 1992, the country has held eight successful elections.
The nation of West Africa continues to view the impending elections as a test case, particularly in light of the sub-Region’s deteriorating democratic ideals and rising instances of military adventurism.
The president pledged that in order to maintain a calm political atmosphere, the government was dedicated to promoting an election free of incidents.
“We should always resort to protocols to establish our displeasure and grievance without disruption to peace and national security.
