President John Mahama has said that a possible power crisis that endangered the nation has been successfully avoided by his administration.

Speaking at the Jubilee House on Wednesday during the swearing-in ceremony of six newly appointed ministers, the President said that proactive steps had been made to ensure the energy supply during planned West African Gas Pipeline maintenance.

“The previous government did not work to ensure the smooth running of the energy sector by neglecting to arrange enough fuel to power our thermal plants,” President Mahama stated.

He clarified that the nation’s power supply was seriously threatened by the repair being done on the gas pipeline, which is a vital source of fuel for the thermal plants in the eastern enclave.

President said “Through determined efforts, I can report that we have now averted the looming threat of power outages and have begun delivering fuel to the thermal plants in the east, in advance of the shutdown of the West African Gas Pipeline.”

He also praised John Jinapor, the recently appointed Energy Minister, for his diligence in taking swift action to resolve the matter.
