Dr. Kwabene Duffuor’s campaign team, according to Mr. Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), is not organized.
He made this remark in response to the Duffuor campaign team’s request to postpone the primaries for president and parliament on May 13 due to what they characterized as irregularities in the voter list.
Dr. Duffuor’s campaign team protested that the register is insufficient and unreliable to be used for the elections in a letter to the NDC General Secretary.
Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a flagbearer candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) to cancel the next presidential and parliamentary primaries slated for this coming weekend, May 13, 2023.
He claims that this is a result of some errors in the party’s voter list.
Dr. Duffuor’s campaign team protested that the register is insufficient and unreliable to be used for the elections in a letter to the NDC General Secretary.
The postponement will provide adequate time for the register to be cleaned and a chance for a free and fair election, according to the letter from Kofi Kukubor, Head of Research and Strategy for the Duffuor campaign.
However, it claimed that after performing a preliminary review of the given data, the campaign team found what they considered to be too many abnormalities in the register.
The discrepancies have caused some people to question the legitimacy of the voting process and the veracity of the voter information that the NDC Elections Commission is providing.
On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, Mr. Gbande responded to the allegations made by Dr. Duffuour’s camp during an interview with media. He refuted any claims that the Functional Executive Committee of the party engaged in unfair play.
The national executives themselves have been fair and worked hard leading to the processes where we have gotten, there are credible processes, transparent processes, and we have been fair to them. If Duffuor’s campaign team have any difficulties, the leadership should be prepared to deal with them. However, they shouldn’t start offending the executive committee of the party when that isn’t the situation, according to Mr. Gbande.
He asserts that “Duffuor’s team themselves are not organized, for if one group comes to ask for information, another group comes to ask for the same information, which means they are not sharing information among themselves so they should put themselves together well before accusing people who are innocent.”
