National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama expressed confidence in the party’s ability to address the economic issues brought about by the “incompetent Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government.”
Mahama emphasized the need for a visionary leader with experience and a track record, stressing the NDC’s strong leadership and their ability to have a positive impact on the country’s course.
Mahama emphasized the importance of the forthcoming general elections in 2024 and the need for an honest government while on a courtesy visit to the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
He promoted openness and honesty in government, emphasizing the value of integrity in leadership.
Mahama also gave the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama II, assurances that the NDC would prioritize resolving the Yendi water crisis in addition to other national issues if they were to win power.
“Today, our country Ghana is in crisis, we all know the hardships, pains, and sufferings our people are going through.
“So the elections of 2024, this year is one of the most crucial elections in the history of Ghana. We need a competent, selfless, honest, truthful government that will come and lead Ghana out of the mess into which it has been thrown by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government.
“I’m confident that NDC has the men and women to turn our fortunes around and make Ghana stand back on its feet.”
In response, citing the importance of preserving national harmony, the Yaa Naa counseled the NDC flagbearer to run a clean campaign free of taunts and disparaging remarks.
In his speech on behalf of the Yaa Naa, Naa Jacob Mahama emphasized the importance of a peaceful and harmonious country and urged the former president to guarantee post-election tranquility.
“I want to congratulate you and Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, for a clean campaign so far. He was here last year, and I admonished him to lead a clean campaign with you, devoid of name-calling and bitterness.”
“Today I’m giving you the same advice, you have no other brother beside you. Being on the opposite of the political divide does not make you enemies, it rather enriches the politics of the family,” he urged Mr Mahama.
Former President John Dramani Mahama has received advice from Ya Na Abukari Yakubu II, the Overlord of Dabgon, to not be afraid to appoint new ministers should he run for office again.
He requested that Mr. Mahama fire any of his supporters who might prove to be unfit for their positions.
“I believe you are not coming to make more money for your family but to leave a legacy that your children will not only be proud of, but will pave the way for them wherever they may find themselves in the future when you are long gone to your maker.
The Overlord of Dagbon also stressed on the significance of creating a lasting legacy. He cautioned Mahama against retaining loyalists in positions of power if they prove to be ineffective in their roles. The Ya-Na’s advice was grounded in the belief that strong leadership and accountability are paramount to building a legacy that not only Mahama’s children would take pride in, but also sets a positive precedent for the future of Ghana.
“In seeking to make this legacy a reality, when you get the nod from Ghanaians, do not shy away from reshuffling your team to get the right ones on board by merit and competence and lay off even loyalists but misfits, who will only chum out mediocrity for your government.
