The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has been tasked with opening an investigation into the recently-retired Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Ceclila Abena Dapaah, according to Builsa South MP Dr. Clement Apaak.

Dr. Apaak claimed that Madam Abena Dapaah’s problems are significant national issues that have drawn a lot of attention from the general public.

“It is not just about arresting her, Ghanaians are expecting agility from the special prosecutor to get to the bottom of this issue, that we need to know the source of the money because we are in need of money as a country, the country is broke, we can’t pay capitation grants, special need schools have not received feeding grants since January so yes we want to know the source of the money.

“If it is our money, it should be returned with interest,” On July 24, Dr. Apaak spoke to reporters in Parliament.

Cecilia Abana Dapaah, former minister of sanitation and water resources, was taken into custody on July 24 by the OSP.

OSP officers are questioning her, according to a statement.

There have been numerous calls for Abena Dapaah’s arrest and inquiry after media coverage of the five suspects’ continuing criminal prosecution for the millions of dollars that went missing sparked speculation about where the vast amounts of money came from.

Between July and October 2022, Abena Dapaah and her husband’s personal belongings and $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis were allegedly stolen by two housekeepers, Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, along with three other people.

However, she disputes the total amounts said to have been stolen on the prosecution’s charge sheets, claiming they don’t match what she reported to the police.
