The member of parliament for North Tongu in the Volta Region, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, expressed confidence in the vast majority of his party and promised to work toward removing high taxes and changing problematic parts of the constitution to better serve the people.
“We have told Ghanaians what we are going to do. Immediately all those obnoxious taxes must go. We now have the numbers to remove the e-levy and the COVID levy to remove the betting tax. With all of those obnoxious taxes, we have an overwhelming mandate to do that. We even have the mandate no; the numbers to amend portions of the constitution”, He made this statement at former President John Mahama’s home.
Mr. Ablakwa saw the election as a major conflict between the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Ghana’s interests.
“Don’t rule the state with impunity, corruption, and state capture; they will punish you, and that must guide all of us,” he said, warning politicians against taking the public for granted.
Along with calling for a governance style based on humility and a dedication to fulfilling the expectations and goals of the people, the member of parliament also urged future leaders to shun greed, corruption, and arrogance.
He thinks that the victory of former President Mahama is an important lesson for all politicians. He emphasized how crucial it is to treat the electorate with dignity, saying that they should never be treated disrespectfully or ignored.
He reaffirmed that the public expects politicians to keep their word, run the economy well, and put their wellbeing first not just to beg for more.
