According to Justin Frimpong Kodua, general secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), any candidate who tries to bribe delegates during the presidential primary will face consequences.

He claims that doing this will contribute to making November 4th a fair and transparent procedure.

The General Secretary stated in an interview with JoyNews that security guards will be ready to apprehend party leaders who attempt to bribe delegates.

“The police will surely arrest anyone who tries to persuade anyone to vote for him if it (inducement) occurs within the boundaries where the elections will take place.

“Anyone who makes an attempt to take a photo in the ballot box or show his ballot paper will also be arrested by the police.”

He emphasized that inducement or vote buying of any kind will not be allowed, even though it will be absurd for any candidate to bribe the more than 200,000 delegates anticipated to cast their votes.

Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong guaranteed that merit will determine the election’s result.

“I think the election results on Saturday will be decided by the candidates’ qualifications and their ability to persuade the delegates of their positions.”Our goal as a political party and the committee is to ensure that the election is successful and transparent.

“In matters of strategies and how an aspirant will run his campaign, we leave it to them. They have to decide which strategy they are going to use but I can assure you money will not determine who will win the election on Saturday,” he added.

In the meantime, 203,439 delegates are anticipated to compete in the NPP’s Saturday, November 4, 2023, presidential elections.

The election will be held in each of the 16 regions of the nation’s constituencies to choose a flagbearer to represent the party in the general elections of 2024.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central, Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie, the former agriculture minister, and former Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh, the MP, are competing.

This came after former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen announced his plan to run as an independent candidate and resigned from the party during the Special Delegates Conference.
