Former President John Dramani Mahama will not congratulate President Nana Addo Dankwa Addo on winning the 2020 elections, according to Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“We will not congratulate anybody who murdered Ghanaians to secure power,” he declared on behalf of the NDC.

Three years after winning the 2020 elections, President Akufo-Addo claimed in a statement on January 7th, Constitution Day, that his chief rival, John Dramani Mahama, had still not congratulated him.

“On a lighter note. three (3) years on, I am still waiting for my main opponent in the 2020 elections to congratulate me on my victory,” President Akufo-Addo said.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Nana Akufo-Addo should rather be implementing the recommendation of inquiry which he himself set up that interrogated the actors and victims of the Ayawaso Wuogon by-election violence; and not be worried over congratulation from our flagbearer. We will not congratulate anybody who murdered Ghanaians to secure power, we will not” Mr Asiedu Nketia said it while addressing the press on Monday, January 8.

“He must be called out to abandon his partisan commitment, which he has expressed publicly, that he’ll do whatever is in his power during the remaining time in office to hand over power to the NPP successor. He wants to choose this successor, not the people of Ghana in whom the sovereignty of Ghana resides; we are saying no way.”

Nketiah attacked Akufo-Addo for not making it a top priority to give Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL), who lost their right to vote in 2020, their parliamentary representation back.

He implored the president to confront violence during elections and give up on his alleged partisan commitment to swaying his successor.

The NDC is unwavering in its refusal to extend congratulations to President Akufo-Addo, citing worries about alleged violence during the election and advocating for attention to be paid to pressing issues.
