First-year university students would not be required to pay academic fees, according to National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama.

He claims that this is a component of a government program designed to relieve parents of the financial burden of covering their children’s educational expenses.

“We will implement a no-fees stress programme to alleviate the financial burden on parents and students in financing tertiary education.

“We will implement a no academic fees policy at the university for level 100 students,” he said.

These were his remarks at the August 12 reading of the NDC’s manifesto.

In order to provide continuing students with the assurance that they may concentrate on their studies, Mr. Mahama also stated that the party will redistribute the Student Loan Trust Fund.
