The public has been reassured by Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang that the government is taking proactive measures to address the recent transportation issues that commuters nationwide are facing.

Her promise comes in the midst of a shortage of commercial cars, which has caused queues of annoyance among commuters, and some drivers taking advantage of passengers.

Speaking on Friday, January 16, at a stakeholder meeting with transportation industry operators, the Vice President recognized the challenges that travelers currently experience, such as terminal congestion and lengthy wait periods.

She urged all parties involved to support further efforts to address the issues and emphasized that the administration is not ignoring the situation.

“Sometimes, the problem is caused by all kinds of situations, including even exploitation by some of our own drivers, long queues at bus stops and terminals, congestion and all kinds of stress that come with the situation.

“We want our fellow countrymen and women to be aware that government is not blind to the situation, that we have not seen and we don’t care. We don’t think it is somebody’s problem; it is everybody’s problem. That is why I started by saying that we need to team up to find the solutions,” she said.

The Vice President claims that the government has implemented policies to make high-occupancy buses more accessible to both public and commercial transportation providers.

“His Excellency has asked me to reassure all of you that he will provide new high-occupancy buses to Metro Mass, Aayalolo, and the private sector in order to augment the services in the medium term,” she stated.

In order to allow operators to put more vehicles on the road as soon as possible, she continued, measures are also in place to expedite the repair of malfunctioning buses.
