Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bawku Central Constituency, has promised that if Speaker Alban Bagbin calls for a recall for parliamentary proceedings, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members of parliament are ready to return.

This guarantee comes after Parliament was adjourned indefinitely on Tuesday, October 22, following a heated debate between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC about which party has the majority in the House.

Mr. Ayariga in an interview with Accra based Citi FM emphasized that the NDC is prepared to answer the Speaker’s demand right now.

Despite the continued political tensions and differences between the two parties, he emphasized that NDC MPs remain dedicated to carrying out their legislative duties.

NDC MPs’ readiness to rejoin the Chamber, according to Mr. Ayariga, shows how committed they are to maintaining Ghana’s government system.

He emphasized that, in keeping with their dedication to serving the country, they will immediately return to work upon the Speaker’s instructions, regardless of the impasse.

Sharp disputes between the NDC and NPP about who holds the majority side of the chamber led to the postponement of Parliament.

Less than 30 members of the NPP attended the session, making them noticeably underrepresented, according to Mr. Ayariga.

He charged that the NPP lacked the required readiness and did not take legislative work seriously.

The NPP MPs’ actions were also criticized by Mr. Ayariga, who implied that Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s larger scheme included their interruption of the proceedings.

He said that the former Majority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, was trying to keep his power and influence in the House by causing chaos during the meeting.

The NDC MPs are ready to return to the Chamber when the Speaker invites them back, Ayariga said, despite the political impasse.

He restated the party’s dedication to supporting the efficient operation of parliamentary business and carrying out its legislative duties for the good of the nation.
