Jean Mensa, the Electoral Commission’s (EC) chairperson, claims that the Commission has conducted the elections fairly.

At the eighth press conference since Sunday morning, hours after the votes had closed, she declared that the Commission “has walked the walk of transparency, we have walked the walk of accountability, we have walked the walk of responsiveness, and we have walked the walk of inclusiveness.”

She then urged the people to be patient because the Commission has not yet received results from certain areas.

Mrs. Mensa clarified that although the Commission is aware of the demands and pressure from certain public segments to announce the election’s conclusion, the proper procedure must be adhered to.

Therefore, after the remaining results are received, the declaration will be made.

Twenty-four hours after Saturday’s elections, a lot of Ghanaians are worried about who will be the nation’s next president.

Asiedu Nketia, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) national chairman, had earlier urged the Commission to announce the outcome of the presidential election. Additionally, the NDC’s National Communications Directorate, under the leadership of Sammy Gyamfi, has put pressure on the EC to declare the poll results.

Former President John Dramani Mahama is in the lead, based on preliminary results from most constituencies nationwide.

The presence of supporters from different political parties who have besieged EC offices in those regions, according to the Commissioner, is one of the issues causing delays in the compilation of results from some regions.

In a news conference on Sunday morning, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia acknowledged the loss and congratulated the former President on his victory in the 2024 elections.
