Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the flagbearer candidate in the recently concluded presidential election and Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has urged NPP members to band together in order to put the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the test in the 2024 polls.
In addition, he promised to support efforts to end the eight-year cycle by collaborating with NPP members.
Mr. Agyapong called the polls “fair,” despite having stated both before and during the voting that he would have problems if they were rigged.
The MP thanked his campaign staff for their unwavering work and accepted the results of the Electoral Commission (EC) while congratulating the winner of the presidential primary.
“Indeed, it’s a great day today. I believe the party has been fair and transparent. That is the only thing I have already been preaching. And I must admit, this election is fair and my grassroots have spoken. And therefore, I accept the results in good faith. I pledge my support that we are working tirelessly to break the eight. Party members, we are here, we should put everything behind us and let’s unite this party. With unity, I believe we can break the eight. I want to assure you, in 2024, the showdown is being translated today. We have to come together and give the NDC a showdown. I want to thank my team for working hard and the party faithfuls who believed in me” Kennedy Agyapong stated.
Following his victory in the presidential primary, Ghana’s vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will face former president and NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama in the general election of 2024.
Three other candidates, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Minister for Agriculture; Kennedy Agyapong, the outspoken MP for Assin Central; and Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former MP for Mampong, were defeated by Dr. Bawumia.
Dr. Bawumia received 118,210 votes, or 61.47% of the total, according to certified results released by Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, a Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission. Mr. Agyapong, his closest competitor, received 71,996 votes, or 37.41% of the vote in total.
